Y Gábor Kasza Hungarian House of Photography – Mai Manó House Opening on the 20th of January 2011, 19.00 p.m.

Gábor Kasza’s latest series of photographies analyses one of the most exigent questions of our age, namely, the dilemma of sustainable environment. The photographer inspired by the dance and physical theatre has arrived at the staged photography and is one of those artists who frequently change their perspectives, and consequently in their own series the way of looking at the world becomes a subject of enquiry.

Kasza’s photographies put on stage quite often recall surrealistic visions and they operate with the entangling of estheticism and conceptualism while at the same by colliding the absurd with the mundane he triggers in the viewer an impulse to leave behind the habitual perception. Due to a combination of the symbolicism of his imagery and to the realistic aspect of the art of photography, the approaching and distancing of these, the effect achieved might serve as the focal point of interpretation of the actual series. The title and form of his new work is a sort of symbol of a certain obligate ”fork in the road” which for all of us may well be an exclamation since all the humanity according to Kasza’s compositions is ”on the horns of such an inevitable dilemma.”

Thr Y series is paralelly a search for identity and a socio-critical reflection beyond the fact that it draws our attention on a deliberately chosen way, philosophy of life. It introduces us into such a photographical vision in which the dreaming self, filled with frustration, perenially forms the surrounding environment, but at the same time they are intermingled with it becoming the subject, the object and the context of the world they live at present and will live in the future.

The photographer sums up his intentions as follows: ”My goal is to create such photographies which encompass the spiritual-intellectual movements of the European individual living today and express the psychic process of life which is told to be invisible. My photographies reveal problems of the consumer society, and the identity crisis of the individual being part of it. I am deeply interested in both the relation of human being and natural environment and the relation between human beings themselves… I transpose all these in spaces which are real, though their effect is that of pre-arranged scenery and make the perspective more absurd."

The exhibition became possible with the support of the CIB Foundation which organised an exhibition for a group of contemporary photographers in 2007. Based on the votes of visitors Gábor Kasza won the prize sponsored by the organization which included an ulterior separate exhibition and a photographic catalogue in order to support the artist's work.

The exhibition is on view between 21 January 2011 - 20 March 2011, on weekdays from 14.00 to 19.00 p.m. on weekends from 11.00 am to 19.00 pm.
